The Edgware
Synagogue Youth Service
“Kol
Tuv” (a good voice) is the Edgware Synagogue Youth Service’s debut
charity album. What makes it special is that everyone took part
equally. There are no solos, no lead singers - just unified singing,
and this represents the unified approach they take in the Youth
Service, where everyone gets involved.
Music plays an important
role in Judaism, and it is no coincidence that this CD was recorded
the week of Parashat Beshalach, when the Torah portion describes the
Song at the Sea, the Israelites’ collective tribute to Hashem.
The inspiration for this
album came from the singing at their weekly communal Seudah Shlishit,
which uplifts anyone who hears it. The Youth Service hope that this CD
will have a similar result.
The Mizrachi Tefillin
Project
Thousands
of new olim (immigrants) living in Israel are beginning to practise
mitzvot for the first time. While the Israeli State is supportive with
welfare funding, there is no provision for religious items.
Similarly, there are
parents living in Israel who simply cannot afford to buy a pair of
Tefillin for their sons’ Bar Mitzvah.
The Mizrachi Tefillin
project supplies Tefillin to all those who cannot afford them, helping
them to fulfil this great mitzvah.
